West Ham have been linked with a move for Arsenal striker Olivier Giroud, and fans on Twitter are begging for reports to be true.

Sky Sports claimed on Sunday that the Hammers were “trying to sign” the proven Premier League performer, who has struggled to hold down a regular role leading the line at the Emirates.

The 30-year-old has a fine goalscoring record with 98 goals from 227 appearances in all competitions since his arrival at the club in 2012, but he has only intermittently been trusted with a starting centre-forward role.

He was handed just 17 such opportunities from his 40 appearances during the 2016-17 campaign, and his ongoing frustrations at his role at the club could see him pursue an alternative challenge.

West Ham, meanwhile, have made it their intention to strengthen their attacking ranks this summer following a fairly limp goalscoring display last term, and Giroud is one of several candidates.

After hearing news about their latest reported centre-forward target, West Ham fans flocked to social media to deliver their verdicts.

West Ham have also been linked with moves for Manchester City youngster Kelechi Iheanacho and Chelsea’s Michy Batshuayi, who are facing a similar predicament to Giroud.

Iheanacho made his breakthrough into the Manchester City first-team under Manuel Pellegrini in 2015, scoring 14 goals in all competitions, but he earned just nine starts under Pep Guardiola last term.

Batshuayi, meanwhile, moved to Chelsea in a big-money deal from Marseille last summer, but played second fiddle to Diego Costa throughout the campaign, making only one Premier League start.
