Manchester United are keeping a close eye on Barcelona midfielder Andre Gomes, according to Mundo Deportivo.

The Spanish newspaper claims that the Premier League side are monitoring the 23-year-old’s current situation at the Camp Nou.

Jorge Mendes, who is the agent of United manager Jose Mourinho, recently flew to Barcelona to sit down and talk with a number of the club’s representatives and Mundo Deportivo reports that Mendes placed an offer on the table for Gomes.

The report claims that the Portuguese midfielder has struggled to adapt to life in Catalonia which has put a number of top European clubs on alert.

It is reported that Serie A champions Juventus are set to provide competition for the Manchester giants as they are also keen on landing Gomes this summer.

It is understood that new Barcelona manager Ernesto Valverde is a huge admirer of the Portugal international which could mean negotiations about the midfielder could run throughout the entire summer.

Gomes signed for Barcelona from fellow La Liga side Valencia last summer and he featured in 47 matches in all competitions, scoring three goals and providing three assists.

The Portuguese midfielder spent the majority of the season coming off the bench as former manager Luis Enrique preferred to start with Ivan Rakitic, Andres Iniesta and Sergio Busquets in the midfield.

Gomes’ contract at the Camp Nou expires in 2021.
