Kieran Trippier has signed a new five-year Tottenham contract worth £65,000-a-week, according to the Times.

The newspaper claim on their website that the north London side that Trippier has penned a deal running until 2022 following a fine finish to the 2016-17 season.

The Times report that Spurs manager Maurcio Pochettino has promised to give the 26-year-old the opportunity to establish himself as the club’s first-choice right back.

It is said that Kyle Walker, who has held that position for the last half-decade, will now be sold to Manchester City if they meet the £40million asking price of White Hart Lane chairman Daniel Levy.

Despite Pochettino’s vow to Trippier, Spurs are keen to recruit a new right-back to replace Walker, with Porto’s Ricardo Pereira top of their transfer list as the manager seeks genuine competition for places.

Trippier, who joined from Burnley for £3.5million in the summer of 2015, has made the most of his opportunities when deputising for Walker in the last two seasons and accumulated 22 appearances in all competitions in 2016-17.

England manager Gareth Southgate included the Spurs right-back in his last international squad, with Trippier making his debut as a starter in the recent 3-2 friendly defeat to France.

Trippier had three years remaining on his Spurs contract signed when he joined but,the club seem to have made a move in order to tie down at least one of their full-backs down.
