Tottenham have dispatched four scouts to run the rule over Europe’s brightest young talent at this summer’s European Under-21 Championships, according to the Daily Mail.

The newspaper claim that a number of English Premier League clubs have snubbed the tournament in Poland, including Liverpool and Manchester United.

But Spurs have demonstrated they are taking the tournament seriously by being among a quartet of Premier League clubs to send as many as four of their scouting staff to watch the young guns.

Southampton, who are also famed for handing youth an opportunity, have also sent four as well, as have rivals Arsenal and Watford.

A number of emerging stars have been selected by their countries, including Schalke and Germany attacker Max Meyer, Portugal and Bayern Munich midfielder Renato Sanches and Italy and AC Milan goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma.

It will be an opportunity for Tottenham staff to put the wheels in motion following an overhaul of their recruitment operation earlier this year after recruitment guru Paul Mitchell was placed on gardening leave.

The north London club brought in four senior players last summer, but each of Moussa Sissoko, Vincent Janssen and Georges Kevin-N’Koudou failed to make an impact for Mauricio Pochettino runners-up, with only Victor Wanyama establishing himself as a first-team regular.

The Under-21s tournament runs from Friday June 16 to June 30.
