Newcastle are looking to ship Aleksandar Mitrovic on loan this summer despite continuing his fine goal scoring record for Serbia, according to the Chronicle.

The 22-year-old target man broke the hearts of Welsh players and fans after his second half strike secured a 1-1 draw for Serbia in their World Cup qualifying match on Sunday.

The goal was his fifth in five appearances for his country, in a match in which he earned his 28th cap, and leaves Serbia joint-top of World Cup qualifying Group D with the Republic of Ireland.

However it would appear that his efforts on the international stage are not enough to stop him departing St James’ Park this summer, with the Magpies looking towards a loan move, as reported by the Chronicle.

Turkish sides Besiktas and Fenerbahce have both been reported as showing interest in the striker, who scored a disappointing six goals in 29 appearances across all competitions last season.

When asked why he appeared to perform so much better for his country as opposed to his club, the 22-year-old put it down to the expectations placed on players by fans during international football.

He was quoted by the Chronicle as saying: “One thing is when you play for the club, and the other when you play for your country and your people. The pressure is normally higher.”

Mitrovic joined Newcastle in the summer of 2015 and has managed to hit 13 goals in 59 appearances for the Magpies.
