Toby Alderweireld has stated that he is still “waiting” on a contract proposal from Tottenham – and fans on Twitter have urged the club to sign him to a new deal.
The 28-year-old has been a key figure for Mauricio Pochettino’s side in recent seasons, helping them record the best defence in the Premier League during the recently concluded campaign.
Tottenham finished the season as runners-up to champions Chelsea by winning 26 of their 38 matches and only conceding 26 goals, seven fewer than their nearest rivals.
Centre-back Alderweireld moved to White Hart Lane in 2015 when Spurs signed him up on a permanent transfer from Atletico Madrid following his successful loan spell at Southampton.
The highly-rated defender has three years left on his current deal in north London and he was clear that he will more than likely be playing at Tottenham next season.
“I’m still waiting for a contract proposal, but in my mind, I’m playing for Spurs next season,” Alderweireld told Belgian press, as quoted by Sky Sports.
A number of Spurs fans were pleased with Alderweireld’s comments as they expressed how they want him to stay at the club and how they would like their side to offer him whatever he wants.
Many supporters pointed towards money and offering the Belgian the money he wants which they believe will keep him at the club.
