Tottenham midfielder Eric Dier has opened up about the club’s Premier League campaign claiming it was positive but also disappointing, as they finished second behind Chelsea.

The North London side were unable to stop city rivals Chelsea from clinching a second Premier League trophy in three seasons.

Tottenham finished the league campaign in second place with 86 points – their highest finish ever in the Premier League era.

It was also the first time in the club’s history where they managed to guarantee Champions League for the second consecutive season.

Spurs also bid farewell to White Hart Lane in the best possible way as they managed to stay unbeaten at home throughout the entire domestic campaign.

When asked to reflect on the campaign, as quoted on the official Tottenham website, Dier revealed that although it was very disappointing not to end the season with a trophy, Spurs are heading in the right direction and they are looking to improve next year.

“It’s been a great season,” he said.

“I think obviously we’re disappointed we didn’t reach our main objective which was to finish in first place and win the Premier League, but I think as a whole we can look at the season as a positive.

“I think this group and this team and this club wants to keep improving and keep striving to do even better than we are at the moment. That’s always the objective.”

Dier was once again an ever-present for Tottenham last season as he made a total of 48 appearances in all competitions last season, scoring two goals and providing two assists.

The 23-year-old is currently on international duty with the England national team as they prepare to face Scotland in a World Cup qualifier at Hampden Park at the weekend.
