Everton are close to finalising a move for Southampton defender Cuco Martina, according to The Sun.

The report says that the Dutch right-back is set for a move to Goodison Park as a free agent, and it means he will be working with his former manager Ronald Koeman again.

A report from the Sun last summer claimed that Koeman wanted to bring the Curacao international to Everton back in 2016, and it looks like the former Saints boss is finally close to landing his man again.

Martina was released by Southampton at the end of the season and will be available to sign as a free agent.

He made 18 appearances for the Saints across all competitions in the 2016/17 season, with six starts in nine Premier League games.

Koeman signed the 27-year-old back in 2015 at Southampton, and is hoping that Martina is the ideal player to step in for right-back Seamus Coleman while he recovers from a serious leg injury.

Martina will also add strength to the Everton side during the extra games in the Europa League that the Toffees will face next season.

Mason Holgate stepped up to replace Coleman at the tail-end of the season, and Martina will now be hoping to make that position his own.

Martina can also play at centre-back though, and this flexibility makes him even more attractive, with Everton due to face a congested fixture list.
