Newcastle youngster Rolando Aarons is convinced that the club will progress under the management of Rafa Benitez, and with the camaraderie present in the squad.

The 21-year-old only managed to make a total of five appearances in all competitions last season due to a knee injury.

Aarons last featured for the Magpies in the 2-0 EFL Cup victory over Cheltenham at St James’ Park at the end of August.

Speaking with the Chronicle, the youngster revealed that he is excited for the upcoming campaign in the English top flight, and claims the club’s spirit will secure their Premier League safety.

“I am going to come back and do what I normally do, try my best, and go from there,” Aarons said.

“With Rafa Benitez here everybody has been more positive. We can only go up from here.

“The spirit in the dressing room was there for all to see after we won promotion and hopefully that can now continue.”

Newcastle achieved automatic promotion to the Premier League in Rafa Benitez’s first full season in charge of the club.

Aarons has already proved that he is more than capable of delivering on the Premier League stage as he scored his first senior goal for Newcastle in only his second league appearance in a 3-3 draw against Crystal Palace at the start of the 2014-15 season.

The winger made a total of 10 Premier League appearances during the 2015-16 campaign but his only goal came on the final day of the league season where Newcastle recorded an emphatic 5-1 victory over Tottenham at St James’ Park.

The youngster’s performances could not prevent Newcastle from being relegated to the Championship that season, but he is hoping for bigger things in the Premier League next season.
