Newcastle United are interested in signing Rennes winger Adama Diakhaby this summer, according to France Football.

The newspaper claims that Newcastle manager Rafa Benitez is an admirer of the 20-year-old and the Magpies are set to make the Ligue 1 side an offer in the next few days.

The youngster managed to break into the Rennes first-team last season and he produced some impressive performances, scoring five goals in 29 appearances in all competitions.

The Frenchman’s contribution helped his side secure a finish in the top half of the table for the third consecutive season.

Newcastle fans will be delighted to hear that the club is looking to make an offer for the youngster as there has been little movement in the transfer market so far.

The Magpies have only managed to make one signing this summer as Christian Atsu completed a permanent move from Premier League champions Chelsea.

The Daily Mail recently reported that Benitez is growing frustrated with the lack of transfer activity which has cast his long-term future at St James’ Park into doubt.

Diakhaby is a player who is comfortable playing on the wing but he can also be deployed as a striker.

The youngster made his international debut for the France Under-21 national team last month in a friendly match against Albania.

The Frenchman’s current contract at Rennes expires in 2019.
