Newcastle United want to sign either Villarreal’s Cedric Bakambu or Liverpool’s Danny Ings this summer to bolster their attack ahead of next season, according to the Sun.

The newspaper claim that the Magpies are set to land Chelsea youngster Tammy Abraham on a season-long loan, but still want a further attacking addition following their return to the Premier League.

The Sun report that manager Rafael Benitez has made contact with La Liga club Villarreal about powerhouse front man Bakambu, who scored 11 goals in 34 appearances last season.

It is said that the Spanish club are holding out for £15million for their striker’s signature, although Newcastle are looking to agree a lower fee.

Forgotten Liverpool forward Ings is the other target being considered despite the two serious knee injuries he has suffered in the past two seasons.

However, the Sun states that Benitez is ideally looking to secure a loan deal for the Englishman due to doubts over his fitness.

Bakambu, 26, was in good form last season in Spain and is recognised for his blistering pace.

The striker missed part of the season due to his involvement in the Africa Cup of Nations with DR Congo, but still helped Villarreal to fifth in La Liga and played seven times in the Europa League.

Liverpool attacker Ings continued his injury nightmare by making just two senior appearances last season as the 24-year-old remained restricted on the sideline, but is expected back to fitness for pre-season.
