Newcastle are one of a number of clubs unwilling to meet Arsenal’s £15million asking price for left-back Kieran Gibbs, according to the Evening Standard.

The newspaper claim on their website that the Magpies are holding off on making a deal for the 10-time-capped England international, 27, until the Gunners lower their valuation of the player.

Other clubs who are reportedly interested in the full-back include fellow promoted side Brighton, Stoke and Watford.

Gibbs has only 12 months left on his £60,000-a-week contract and the combination of his wage demands and Arsenal’s valuation mean the four clubs including Newcastle are unwilling to buy the 27-year-old at the touted price.

The left-back, who has been part of the North London club since joining in 2004, has struggled to break into the starting XI over the past couple of seasons, with Spanish defender Nacho Monreal preferred ahead of him.

He has made just 11 league appearances this campaign, eight of those starts, while he managed to notch up just three league starts in the 2015/16 season.

With the signing of Bosnian full-back Sead Kolasinac confirmed by the club, Gibbs’ days at the Emirates Stadium look numbered.

However, it is reported that the player is willing to stay at the club if Arsene Wenger can convince him that he has a real opportunity to win back his place in the starting XI.
