Matt Le Tissier believes Tottenham need to offload defender Kyle Walker this summer.

The Sun claim Walker’s reported £40million move to Man City is in danger of collapsing as Spurs have raised their asking price to £60million for the England defender.

Sky Sports pundit Le Tissier told the website that it is the right time to sell Walker, as his value will start to deteriorate after the summer due to the former Sheffield United defender’s age.

Le Tissier also claimed Spurs need to buy a striker who possesses more quality than Vincent Janssen, but is happy to be used as second choice to England international Kane when he is unavailable to play.

“I would suggest that they need somebody a little bit closer to Harry Kane’s standard as a back up, rather than Vincent Janssen, but the challenge is finding somebody who will be happy to play second fiddle,” Le Tissier said.

“Walker is decent but at 27 it is the right time to cash in on him as his value will start to plummet and we know Spurs like to get top dollar, so Spurs will probably need to go out and replace him.”

Janssen, 22, was bought by Mauricio Pochettino last summer from Dutch side AZ Alkmaar for £17million, but has failed to adapt to the rigours of Premier League football when covering Kane.

The striker has found the back of the net just six times for Spurs this season despite making 38 appearances for the north London outfit, a far cry from his 32 goals for Alkmaar during 2015-16.

Le Tissier believes Spurs are in need of replacing the 12-time international, as Pochettino looks to go one better in the Champions League and Premier League next season.

He could leave Spurs this summer, while Walker could also join him on the way out.

The flying right-back has a contract with Spurs until the summer of 2021 but it remains to be seen if he will be pulling on the white of Tottenham’s home shirt next season.
