Besiktas chiefs are set to fly to England this week for talks with Newcastle over the transfer of Aleksandar Mitrovic, according to Fotospur.

The Turkish media outlet claim that officials from Besiktas will jet to Tyneside for face-to-face discussions with the Premier League new boys after early negotiations between the Turkish cub and Mitrovic’s agent.

Fotospur report that Besiktas are keen to sign the striker after being alerted to his place down the pecking order of strikers at St James’ Park.

Mitrovic was forced to play second fiddle to main man Dwight Gayle last season as Newcastle returned to the Premier League at the first attempt by storming to the Championship title.

The Serbia international, 22, scored six goals and supplied six assists from 29 matches in all competitions as he struggled to make the impact that was expected in the second tier following an encouraging debut campaign.

The temperamental forward joined Newcastle for £14million from Anderlecht in the summer of 2015 but injuries, suspensions and inconsistencies have meant that he has not been completely trusted by manager Rafael Benitez or his predecessor Steve McClaren.
