Manchester United are willing to splash the cash and spend around £40million to land Roma defensive midfielder Radja Nainggolan this summer, according to Gazzetta dello Sport.

The Italian newspaper claims that the Manchester club are prepared to offer the 29-year-old midfielder an eye-watering contract worth £7.5million-a-year.

It is understood that the Serie A side were close to agreeing a brand new deal with the Belgian but United’s reported offer appears to have stalled negotiations as Nainggolan is seriously considering the contract.

The report also claims that United manager Jose Mourinho has already been in contact with those close to the player to express his interest.

This is not the only midfielder who has been linked with United this summer as the Guardian recently reported that Chelsea enforcer Nemanja Matic is scheduled for a medical at Old Trafford ahead of a proposed deal worth £40million.

The Belgian has been one of the most consistent performers at Roma since moving to the club three years ago.

Nainggolan enjoyed his best campaign at the club in terms of numbers last season as he contributed with 14 goals and seven assists in all competitions.

The midfielder has also become a fixture in the Belgium national side, making a total of 29 international appearances.

The Belgian’s current contract with Roma expires in 2020.
