Manchester United will confirm the signing of Benfica defender Victor Lindelof next week for around £30million, according to a Correio da Manha report.

The Portuguese news outlet claims the Red Devils will announce the signing after the 22-year-old has played for Sweden against France in a World Cup qualifier on June 9.

The Swedish centre-back was a mainstay in Benfica’s defence this term, making 47 appearances in all competitions, with his only goal of the campaign coming in a 1-1 draw against Sporting Lisbon in April.

He was snapped up by the Portuguese giants from Swedish outfit Vasteras SK in July 2012, and he spent three seasons with the B team, playing almost 100 league and cup games for the side.

The 22-year-old then made the step up into the first team in the summer of 2015, and has been a first choice centre-back for the club ever since, making 73 appearances in all competitions.

United manager Jose Mourinho is looking to bolster his defensive options this summer ahead of the 2017/18 campaign and has identified the Swede as an ideal replacement for the likes of Chris Smalling and Phil Jones.

Lindelof has been capped by Sweden 11 times, with his only goal for his nation coming in a 3-0 World Cup qualifying win over Bulgaria last year.
