Sam Johnstone is set to leave Manchester United this summer and Aston Villa want to make him a permanent addition to the club, according to a Daily Mail report.

The 24-year old is expected to leave Old Trafford during the transfer window as Manchester United shake up their goalkeepers this summer.

With David de Gea possibly making a departure to Real madrid, it is reported that Man United will seek replacements.

If that happens it is said that Sam Johnstone could face the axe as he’s already behind Argentina’s Sergio Romero and Portuguese Joel Pereira.

United are reported to want up to £5million for his signature, although he’s only under contract until the summer of 2018.

The Daily Mail have report that Aston Villa want Johnstone back on a permanent basis after he impressed throughout the half-season-long loan he played.

He made a slow adjustment to life in Birmingham, but proved he was worthy of a No 1 jersey under Steve Bruce’s leadership and won the fans over.

Since joining United back in 2011, Johnstone has yet to make an appearance for the first-team and has spent a large majority of his time on loan at various clubs such as Preston North End, Doncaster Rovers, and Yeovil Town.

Villa will face stiff competition though, with United said to be in talks with seven clubs including Premier League teams Leicester and Watford.
