Stan Collymore has claimed that Manchester United would be “foolish” to let the opportunity of signing Cristiano Ronaldo pass.

The former Liverpool forward believes if the Real Madrid star became available for a fee around the £150million mark then United should snap him up.

The 32-year-old moved to the Bernabeu from Old Trafford during the summer of 2009 for a then-world record fee of £80million.

Since then, he has gone on to become an even bigger name in the game, recently winning back-to-back Champions League trophies for his side.

Jose Mourinho’s United won the Europa League in May which means they have automatically entered the Champions League group stages despite finishing outside of the top-four last term.

Broadcaster Collymore has explained why Ronaldo at his age would still be a great purchase for United despite the possibility that they would have to pay a huge fee for the player.

“If there is even a glimmer of a chance that Manchester United could get Cristiano Ronaldo from Real Madrid for around the £150million mark this summer they’d be foolish to let the opportunity pass,” Collymore told the Mirror.

“He’s 32 years old but super-motivated and United could probably get two very good years out of him at least, plus a huge chunk of that sum back given the commercial juggernaut at Old Trafford.”

Ronaldo, who won the European Championships with Portugal in 2016, scored an incredible 42 goals from his 46 matches during the recently concluded campaign.

The four-time Ballon d’Or winner struck 12 of those goals from his 13 Champions League encounters, including a brilliant brace in the final with Madrid thumping Italian giants Juventus 4-1.

During his time in the Premier League, Ronaldo scored 84 goals and provided 45 assists from his 196 matches, winning three Premier League titles under the stewardship of Sir Alex Ferguson.
