Goalkeeper Willy Caballero is one step closer to becoming a Chelsea player after passing a medical at the club, according to the Times.

The newspaper claim that Caballero, who knows the Premier League well from his three years,at Manchester City, has secured the terms of a deal.

The Times report that that the 35-year-old is expected to be the second-choice goalkeeper at Stamford Bridge next season behind Belgian shot-stopper Thibaut Courtois.

This comes after the  Mirror reported that Caballero had agreed personal terms with the Premier League champions and he is set to be unveiled as the first signing of the summer on July 1.

The Argentinian will join as a free agent after it was announced that he is leaving Premier League rivals City when his contract expires at the end of the month even though he was a first team regular last season.

Caballero spent the majority of his City career as the back-up choice behind England international Joe Hart before the latter was sent out on loan to Serie A side Torino last summer.

Nevertheless, the goalkeeper was regularly given chances in the domestic cup competitions and he proved to be the match winner in the 2016 League Cup final when he saved three Liverpool spot kicks to ensure victory for the Manchester club.

Under new manager Pep Guardiola, the Argentinian enjoyed his best season in terms of games played in 2016-17 as he featured in 27 matches in all competitions and kept 10 clean sheets in the process.
