Premier League champions Chelsea are set to name goalkeeper Willy Caballero as their first summer signing, according to the Mirror.

The newspaper claim that talks with the 35-year-old have already reached a positive conclusion, but that Chelsea will wait until July 1, the official opening date for the transfer window, to unveil his arrival.

Caballero has been available to be snapped up on a free transfer for only a short period of time after his contract at Manchester City expired, and is reportedly set to seal a move to one of their title rivals.

The experienced goalkeeper, who reached the quarter-finals of the Champions League with Malaga in 2012-13, will  be set to serve as deputy to first-choice stopper Thibaut Courtois at Stamford Bridge.

He has the talent to hold down a regular role in the Blues camp, having made 27 appearances in all competitions for Manchester City last season, but he is not likely to usurp the Belgian international.

Nevertheless, Antonio Conte has moved to add an experienced alternative to his ranks following the departure of Asmir Begovic to Bournemouth at the end of last month.

The report also details that Chelsea are working hard to bring in both Everton’s Romelu Lukaku and AS Monaco’s Tiemoue Bakayoko this summer.

However, it is Caballero that is expected to be named as their first signing of what could be a busy transfer window for the Premier League giants.

The Evening Standard had earlier claimed that Chelsea were set to announce a mystery signing on July 1, but the latest report from the Mirror suggests the identity of the player may already be pretty clear.
