Arsenal midfielder Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain is set to tell the club he wants to leave this summer, according to the Times.

The newspaper claim that the 23-year-old does not feel as though he can fulfil his potential if he were to remain at the north London club, and could request a transfer.

The Times report that Oxlade-Chamberlain has made up his mind to quit and his “priority” is to find a new club before pre-season training starts at the beginning of July.

An earlier report in the Times had claimed that Arsenal were set to open talks with the versatile midfielder over a fresh contract, but the latest report states the formal talks have yet to begin.

He is currently out of contract at the end of next season, but while Arsenal are keen to see him remain at the club, Oxlade-Chamberlain is prepared to make an emphatic decision on his future.

A number of top English sides are understood to have shown an interest in his services should he be made available this summer, with the player seeking more regular opportunities ahead of next year’s World Cup.

Oxlade-Chamberlain made 45 appearances in all competitions last season, but he made just 16 starts in the Premier League and saw his role in the side change almost week-in, week-out.

The England international publicly declared his preference for a central-midfield role, but he has been used primarily as a wide-midfielder or winger during his time at Arsenal.

But he was also deployed as a right-wing back towards the end of last season, having appeared just seven times in his preferred central role.

He has also failed to complete the full 90 minutes in a single game more than five times in a row, which has added to his growing frustrations at the Emirates.

With Oxlade-Chamberlain reportedly prepared to jump ship this summer after a six-year stint, Premier League rivals Liverpool, Chelsea and Manchester City are understood to be waiting in the wings.
