Manchester City left-back Aleksander Kolarov has expressed his desire to return to former club Lazio, according to a report in Il Messaggero.

The Italian media outlet has revealed that the 31-year-old defender wants to return to Rome to play in the Serie A competition, but won’t move until his career with Manchester City is over.

The Serbian moved to the Etihad from SS Lazio for a fee of £19.3 million in 2010 and has just one year left on his contract with City.

Kolarov was quoted on Il Messaggero’s official website speaking about his love for the Italian club: “I’d like to return one day because Rome remains in my heart, I am no longer young but I can still have a say.

“I’ve won everything in Manchester but Italy is something else.”

Since joining the Manchester Blues seven years ago the Serbian has made a total of 353 appearances for the club where he provided 33 goals and 46 assists along the way.

Kolarov could see less playing time next season as City boss Guardiola has been linked with Monaco left-back Benjamin Mendy which could result in the Serb being sidelined.

The defender displayed versatility during the previous season after Guardiola transformed the Serbia international into a centre-back on occasions because of skipper Vincent Kompany’s injury problems.
