Newcastle United have leapfrogged West Ham in the race to sign Liverpool striker Daniel Sturridge, according to the latest betting odds.

Leading bookmaker Sky Bet have priced Paris Saint-Germain as 4/1 favourites to land the 27-year-old before September 3.

Intriguingly, Newcastle (6/1) have edged ahead of long-time favourites West Ham (8/1) in the running for the signature of the proven Premier League scorer.

Previously, PSG were second favourites behind the Hammers to sign the England international, who endured another injury-hit campaign at Anfield.

Sturridge missed 11 Premier League encounters because of a hip or calf injury which restricted him to playing only 20 league matches.

Jurgen Klopp opted to start him for eight of those games, with the England man finding the back of the net on three occasions.

Sturridge did start his side’s last two league matches, scoring during the penultimate game of the season which helped the Reds secure a top-four spot.

As a result, Klopp’s team will now have to win a qualifying round at the start of the next campaign if they are to progress through to the group stages of the Champions League.

Sturridge has two-years left on his current deal at Liverpool and there is no doubt that he will be eager to complete a full season next term.

Gareth Southgate’s England side are hoping to qualify for next summer’s World Cup in Russia, a tournament Sturridge no doubt will want to be a part of.
