Premier League side West Brom are set to rival Aston Villa in the race to sign Chelsea legend John Terry, according to a Birmingham Mail report.

The regional newspaper claims Villa manager Steve Bruce and Baggies boss Tony Pulis are both attempting to complete a deal for Terry which will see him move to their club once his contract at Chelsea expires.

It claims that West Brom will offer ‘fierce competition’ to Aston Villa’s reported move for the Premier League legend.

Premier League duo Brighton and Hove Albion and Bournemouth are also said to be interested in the former Chelsea and England skipper.

This comes after a report in the Sun claimed that Terry held talks with Bruce over a potential move to the club next season.

The Sun pictured the pair together on a golf course at the Quinta do Lago resort in Portugal at the weekend, where they allegedly held talks about Terry’s future.

It was said the veteran centre-back is keen on a move to Villa Park, and that Bruce would have to offload some dead-weight from his squad in order to fund the transfer, with owner Tony Xia ready to swoop.

Meanwhile, the Times reported that Birmingham City were ready to join the race for the 36-year-old defender’s services.

Terry was used sparingly by Chelsea manager Antonio Conte last term, as David Luiz, Gary Cahill and Cesar Azpilicueta were all preferred, and he only made 14 appearances in all competitions.
