Manchester United look like they have confirmed Wayne Rooney’s departure this summer.

The club appeared to give a clear indication that their skipper won’t be staying at Old Trafford after removing the 31-year-old from their cover photo on Facebook.

Rooney previously featured in the advertisement for the club’s new away strip alongside Paul Pogba, Jesse Lingard and Ander Herrera back in May.

However, on Tuesday a new version of the picture was uploaded to the club’s official Facebook page without the captain alongside his teammates.

The previous picture had over 230,000 likes, whereas the new image without Rooney has only gained around 79,000.

Despite earlier reports suggesting that Rooney would stay at Old Trafford for another season, the club’s official Facebook page seems to suggest otherwise.

Rooney was expected to make a decision about his future with United following his family holiday, which he departed on after he was left out of Gareth Southgate’s England squad.

The England international was previously linked with his boyhood club Everton, yet the move became unlikely after the Daily Mail claimed boss Ronald Koeman was unable to offer a salary close to his current £250,000-a-week wage.

The 31-year-old fell down the pecking order at United over the past season, falling behind Marcus Ashford, Antony Martial and Swedish giant Zlatan Ibrahimovic.

The striker could fall even further in Mourinho’s forward rankings as the boss remains hopeful to finalise a deal with Real Madrid striker Alvaro Morata.
