Chelsea boss promises to sign new contract despite disagreements

Chelsea manager Antonio Conte has promised to sign a new contract with the club next month, according to a report in The Times.

The newspaper has revealed that the Blues boss has held talks with Stamford Bridge hierarchy, directors Marina Granovsjaia and Michael Emenalo, and reassured them that he wants to remain at the club.

The Times revealed that the Italian told the club’s directors that he wanted to continue managing the Premier League winners despite feeling frustrated at by a few issues at the London club.

It is said that the former Juventus manager clashed with the club’s bosses after he text messaged Diego Costa to tell him that he wasn’t part of Conte’s plans for Chelsea next season.

The manager and his employers also disagreed over the club’s slow start to the transfer window, however The Times claims that these issues wouldn’t affect the Italian’s future at Stamford Bridge.

The 47-year-old guided Chelsea to win the 2016/17 Premier League title and believes that his achievement should be rewarded by the directors in the form of more signings, as Conte wants a bigger squad to ensure the Blues are contenders in the Champions League.

He has also said that he intends to target the Champions League next season – one of the trophies he hasn’t won as a manager.

Conte’s existing contract which he signed in April last year, is due to expire in 2019 but the Italian is expected to sign a two-year extension before he returns to oversee Chelsea’s pre-season training.

The Times also revealed that Conte will receive a 50 per cent pay increase when he renews his contract, which will see his yearly salary rise to £9 million.
