Wenger must sell favourite trio

Santi Cazorla

Santi Cazorla has been a fond favourite of Wenger since joining Arsenal from Malaga in 2012, and is a key first team figure when fully fit, however as the Spaniard enters the twilight of his career this summer could be the best time for the 32-year-old to make a departure.

The Spanish star has been a familiar face within the Arsenal squad during previous seasons, appearing 148 times during his initial three campaigns with the north London club.

However, the 32-year-old’s appearances have diminished significantly owing to extensive injuries over the past few years.

During the 2015/16 season the central-midfielder missed a total of 28 games after suffering a knee injury and later and achilles problem.

The Spaniard was hardly seen on the pitch last season after only playing in eight PL games for the club, and became a regular face on the sidelines because of surgery on his ankle which led to the club’s number 19 sitting out a total of 43 games.

Despite his impressive start for the club five years ago, the midfielder’s fitness seems to be deteriorating and it is doubtful that at the age of 32 he would return to his former glory.

By saying farewell to the former Malaga star, Wenger would open up the opportunity for a younger and fresher face to step into the centre of his midfield, perhaps for Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain who has always expressed the desire to play in the position.
