Arsenal and Manchester City could agree a sensational swap of forwards Alexis Sanchez and Sergio Aguero this summer, according to a report in the Daily Star.

The newspaper have revealed that discussions have been held between the Premier League rivals about the two goal-machines swapping clubs during the transfer window.

The Daily Star report that Pep Guardiola is keen for a reunion with Sanchez after the pair briefly worked together at La Liga giants Barcelona.

It is said that despite the City boss making the 28-year-old his primary target for the summer transfer window, Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger is reluctant to let Sanchez depart.

However, the newspaper claim that the 110-capped Chile international is keen to leave the Emirates and the swap between the pair could provide a solution for both clubs.

The South Americans gave similar performances for their respective clubs during the 2016/17 season – Sanchez provided 24 Premier League goals in 38 appearances, while Aguero netted 20 in 31 games.

Despite the Argentinian’s impressive display Aguero saw competition from the 20-year-old Brazilian Gabriel Jesus who arrived at the Etihad in January on a four-year-deal.

With the young Brazil international set to return to the City squad from injury at the beginning of the season, it looks as though Aguero could slip in Guardiola’s pecking order.

A move to Arsenal would see the 29-year-old gain a first-team spot, but the Argentinian would have to sacrifice Champions League football for the privilege.

Arsenal legend Ian Wright thinks that Aguero at Arsenal would be a title-winning proposition and was quoted by the Star saying: ““What I would like is for Arsenal to buy Aguero. Then we win the league off the back of that, simple as that.”
