Leeds face an uphill battle in their pursuit of Spanish midfielder Samuel Saiz as three more La Liga sides have entered the race to sign him, according to the player’s agent.

This comes after the story in Diario Vasco which reported that the Championship club had placed an enticing offer on the table in order to beat La Liga side Eibar in the race to land Saiz.

Speaking to the Yorkshire Evening Post, Saiz’s representative Juan Moreno stated: “Samuel has a firm (interest) from Leeds United and also other Premier League clubs in Spain.”

The newspaper claims that Real Betis, Las Palmas and Alaves are all interested in securing the 26-year-old’s signature during the summer transfer window.

Alaves is likely to be the most appealing club for the Spaniard as they enjoyed a sensational campaign back in La Liga, finishing in ninth position and reaching the Copa del Rey final for the first time in their history.

The good news for Leeds fans is that Moreno confirmed to the Evening Post that the Spaniard is open to a move to England next season.

Saiz was in terrific form for Spanish second tier side HD Huesca, scoring 12 goals and providing eight assists in all competitions last season.

The midfielder’s contract at the club runs out at the end of next season.
