Southampton goalkeeper Fraser Forster has warned England that Celtic striker Leigh Griffiths is the danger man for Scotland ahead of the crucial World Cup qualifier at Hampden Park this Saturday.

The 26-year-old led the line for Scotland in the reverse fixture between the two teams last year in November when England picked up a 3-0 victory at Wembley Stadium.

Griffiths did not enjoy much game time with Celtic last season as a combination of injuries and the arrival of Scott Sinclair and Moussa Dembele hindered his chances of regular first-team football

The Scotland international made a total of 38 appearances in all competitions for the Hoops last season – his lowest amount since signing for the club in 2014.

The striker still contributed with 12 goals and 11 assists last season as Celtic secured a historic treble, remaining unbeaten throughout the entire domestic season.

Speaking ahead of the match on the weekend, as quoted in the Daily Record, Forster was quick to praise Griffiths and advised his England teammates to stay focused whilst he is on the football pitch.

“Leigh is a fantastic player,” he said.

“He has pace to stretch defences but can score from anywhere. He has a great left foot and can hit the target from outside or inside the box.

“It just takes half a chance or a split-second and he can punish you.

“He is definitely one player we need to really concentrate on to make sure he doesn’t get that chance.”

Forster knows exactly what Griffiths is capable of producing on a football pitch as they spent half a season together at Celtic Park during the 2013-14 campaign.

Both men enjoyed success together as they helped Celtic to clinch the Scottish Premier League title that season.
