Wigan Athletic decided to release the 42-year-old goalkeeper this summer.

Despite his age, the former Finland international made 10 appearances in all competitions last season and managed to keep two clean sheets in the process.

Jaaskelainen has vast experience playing at the top level during his Premier League spell at Bolton Wanderers so his presence and his knowledge of the game around the dressing room would be invaluable at Villa.
