Shaun Teale believes it “can only be a good thing” if Aston Villa were to sensationally sign John Terry this summer.

The former Villa man stated that centre-back Terry would bring experience and leadership to a team that will be vying to earn promotion to the Premier League next season.

Sky Sports reported on Monday that Terry is considering an offer from Villa after he held informal talks with the club’s manager Steve Bruce over a round of golf.

Former England captain Terry will leave his boyhood club of Chelsea this summer when his contract at Stamford Bridge expires at the end of this month and he is available on a free.

Teale, who played for Villa during the mid-90’s winning the League Cup in 1994, backed Terry moving to the Midlands because it will only make them stronger.

“I think it can only be a good thing,” Teale told Sky Sports News HQ on Saturday afternoon (June 17).

“His experience, his leadership and they way he plays the game he is going to teach the youngsters how to play the game properly and how to defend properly.”

If Terry were to drop down to the Championship this summer to play for Villa then he would bring vasts amounts of experience to the club.

During his career, he has won five Premier League titles, five FA Cups, three League Cups and the European Cup in 2012.

However, with Terry set to be a free-agent, there will be a number of clubs, both in England and abroad, that will be offering him the chance to play for them.

As a result, Villa and Bruce will pull off a real coup if there were to land his signature.
