Leeds United youngster Ronaldo Vieira was the England Under-20s match winner on Saturday as he helped them on the way to become champions in the Toulon Tournament.

The 18-year-old midfield enforcer stepped up to score the Three Lions’ winning penalty in a shoot-out win against the Ivory Coast, after the match had ended 1-1 thanks to a last minute equaliser.

His strike meant the young England squad secured their second successive Toulon Tournament title, with a team built of second string youth players thanks to the U-20 World Cup and the U-21 European Championships taking place.

The competition is an international friendly tournament played by invited youth teams, although is not run under FIFA as an official competition.

Sheffield United’s David Brooks had given England the lead and they were seconds away from snatching victory, before Ake Loba equalised from the penalty spot in injury time and send the match to penalties.

However, unlike England squads of recent times, the young Lions were up to the task, and it was Vieira who snatched glory by dispatching his penalty to secure a 5-3 shoot-out victory.

The 18-year-old is highly rated by Leeds, as he broke into the first team this season to make 34 league appearances, scoring his first and only goal so far in the 3-2 win over Norwich.

His impressive performances led to a new 4-year contract at Elland Road, which was signed at the end of May.
