Newcastle are interested in acquiring the services of Charleroi right-back Clinton Mata, according to La Derniere Heure.

The Belgian news outlet claims that Anderlecht, Nice, Marseille and Feyenoord are also keeping tabs on the 24-year-old.

The seven-times Angola international, who was born in Belgium, is attracting a host of attention following a brilliant campaign in the Jupiler League.

He made 38 appearances across all competitions in the recently-ended season, scoring one goal and supplying two assists.

It is undersood from La Derniere Heure that Anderlecht have asked Charleroi if they can speak with Mata’s agent ahead of a move, and despite discussions taking place, no decision has been made as of yet.

Mata is thought to be delaying his decision due to the large amount of interest coming from elsewhere.

Newcastle are perhaps looking for a new right-back due to the on-going injury concerns that have plagued DeAndre Yedlin in his debut season at St. James’ Park.

Utility man Vurnon Anita is also expected to leave when his contract expires within a matter of weeks and Jesus Gamez, who was signed last summer on a two-year deal, has failed to earn much first-team football under the reign of Rafa Benitez as he guided the Magpies back to the Premier League.
