Middlesbrough have been installed the new favourites to sign Leeds striker Chris Wood, according to the latest bookmakers’ odds.

Sky Bet priced the recently-relegated Premier League club at 6/1 on Thursday evening to sign the 25-year-old this summer as the Wood betting market was turned on its head following the resignation of Garry Monk.

Boro had not even been in the running to sign the Championship’s leading scorer this season last week, when Stoke were the 5/2 favourites for his signature, followed by West Ham (7/2), Swansea (9/2), Southampton (7/1) and West Brom (14/1).

However, the market has changed considerably after Leeds announced on Thursday afternoon that they had accepted the resignation earlier in the day of Monk.

The bookmakers responded by making the 38-year-old one of the frontrunners for a number of vacant jobs, and he was priced at evens to take the reins at the Riverside Stadium.

According to Sky Bet, Swansea (8/1), Crystal Palace (8/1), West Ham (16/1) and any Chinese club (16/1) are also in the running to sign Wood on the back of a season in which he scored 30 goals in 48 appearances across all competitions, including a Championship-high tally of 27.

The Sun have reported that the forward is a £20million target for a number of Premier League clubs.
