Everton have not agreed a fee with Swansea for Gylfi Sigurdsson

Everton have not agreed a fee with Swansea for attacking midfielder Gylfi Sigurdsson, according to the Sky Sports transfer centre blog.

The Mirror claimed on Tuesday morning that the Toffees had settled on a £25million deal for the 27-year-old Iceland international with the club looking to move quickly to secure his signing ahead of Tottenham and Southampton, who are both also said to be interested.

However, Sky Sports have since reported on their  popular blog (10.13am) that they understand the two clubs have not agreed a fee for the playmaker and that the Swans are desperate to keep him at the Liberty Stadium.

It is also detailed that some believe the story has been timed to coincide with Everton’s negotiations to keep Ross Barkley, whose future is in major doubt with his contract set to expire next summer while other Premier League clubs are circling.

Sigurdsson would certainly be a worthy replacement for the once bright prospect with the Icelandic star returning nine goals while providing 13 himself in 38 Premier League matches for the struggling Swans this season.

The assist king played a key role in keeping Paul Clement’s side in the Premier League and with three years remaining on his contract supporters will be hoping he remains in Wales.
