Alfonso Pedraza is unlikely to re-join Leeds United after his indifferent loan spell, according to Yorkshire Evening Post journalist Phil Hay.

The 21-year-old moved to Elland Road in January on a six-month loan deal from Villareal with many supporters wanting him to sign permanently at the club.

Now reliable journalist Phil Hay has claimed in an exchange with a supporter on his personal Twitter account whether the Spanish winger can expect to be seen again in a Leeds shirt.

“There was very little expectation of him coming back here,” Hay wrote on his personal Twitter account. “Certainly not permanently.”

During his time at Leeds, Pedraza played 14 Championship matches but he initially struggled for game time under manager Garry Monk.

He only scored one goal during his time at the club and that came during his side’s 3-1 away win at Birmingham City.

Monk utilised Pedraza as a left winger as he started eight matches which saw his team miss out on the play-off places by five points.

To the delight of Leeds fans, Sky Sports News HQ reported on their official Twitter account on Tuesday afternoon that Monk has extended his contract at Leeds to 12 months.

His current deal was due to expire this summer with many fans hoping the highly-rated coach would stay on at the club after a successful debut campaign.
