Everton are interested in signing Chelsea defender Baba Rahman, according to a report.

The Mail claim that the Toffees have enquired about signing the 22-year-old for next season.

The left-back has been on loan at German club Schalke this season and it is believed Chelsea feel he has the potential to achieve in the Premier League.

However, the report details that the Blues are prepared to loan the Ghana international out on loan to Schalke again next season and leave Everton to miss out on their target.

Rahman enjoyed a strong first half of the season in Germany, but an anterior cruciate ligament injury in January ruled him out for the rest of the season.

The pacy full-back made 21 appearances across all competitions, including playing every game of Schalke’s Europa League campaign.

He is expected to be loaned out to experience more first team football and Chelsea will be keen to see their £14million investment come good in the future.

Antonio Conte’s side already have Marcos Alonso as their first-choice left wing-back option, while Nathan Ake was recalled from a loan at Bournemouth to provide cover.

Everton do have senior player Leighton Baines as their preferred left-back, while developing youngsters Luke Garbutt and Brendan Galloway are upcoming talents at Goodison Park and have been loaned out this year.

Ronald Koeman’s side will be competing in Europe next year after a seventh-placed finish in the Premier League and will surely be looking to improve his squad.
