Newcastle are prepared to make Bournemouth forward Joshua King their priority attacking target in the summer, according to a report.

The Northern Echo claim that the Magpies are keen to improve their squad in the summer and have an £80million transfer kitty to spend.

It is understood that the recently-crowned Championship winners are favouring a move for Bournemouth’s star striker after also looking at Burnley’s Andre Gray, but Tottenham are also known to be keen admirers.

The report details that Rafael Benitez wants someone with experience of English football and the 25-year-old has been in fantastic form in the Premier League this season.

King is expected to cost £20million-plus to bring to St James Park as the Northern Echo report he is likely to cost double the £12million they paid for Matt Ritchie last summer.

King has played a major role in keeping Bournemouth in the Premier League this season and been a star for Eddie Howe’s men.

The Norway international has made 35 appearances in the division and scored 15 goals in return.

He is enjoying his best season to date and Newcastle feel he can help supplement their squad next year.

The Magpies do already have the likes of Dwight Gayle, Aleksandar Mitrovic and Dwight Gayle as forward options, but want to make sure they can be competitive on their return to the Premier League.
