Blackburn Rovers and Sheffield United are both interested in taking Celtic wide-man Gary Mackay-Steven on loan next season, according to a Daily Record report.

The newspaper claims the pair of clubs have “made contact” with the 26-year-old’s representatives about a potential loan move.

Blackburn manager Tony Mowbray is looking to overhaul his squad following their relegation to League One, while Sheffield United are aiming to bolster their attacking options after securing promotion to the Championship.

Mackay-Steven failed to make an impact at Parkhead this term and spent large periods out of the side as other options were preferred.

He only made five starts and six substitute appearances in all competitions, and he failed to find the back of the net or to provide an assist.

The Scotsman is under contract with the Bhoys until 2019 having made a move from Dundee United in February 2015.

He was a regular for the Hoops in the 2015/16 campaign, playing 37 league and cup games, scoring six goals and supplying nine assists, but since Brendan Rodgers’ arrival at the club he has found himself on the peripheries.

The 26-year-old is looking comfortable playing on either wing and has been capped by Scotland once, as a late substitute in an international friendly against USA in 2013.
