Celtic are ready to make a bid for Hibernian midfield kingpin John McGinn, according to the Express.

The UK newspaper claims Parkhead manager Brendan Rodgers is lining up a £1.5million offer for the central midfielder, 22, in an attempt to beat English clubs to his signature.

The Express report that Rodgers is a huge admirer of McGinn and has been impressed at how he has spearheaded Hibernian’s return to the Scottish Premiership.

McGinn has been one of the outstanding players for Neil Lennon’s  side, scoring five goals and nine assists from 36 matches during their romp to the Championship title.

The performances of the three-times Scotland international have attracted covetous glances from south of the border, with relegated Premier League club Sunderland keeping close tabs on his situation.

The Express report that Rodgers is aware of competition for McGinn and is ready to make a quickfire bid to win the race ahead of the forthcoming transfer window.

Glasgow-born McGinn joined Hibs from St Mirren in the summer of 2015 and signed a four-year contract that expires in the summer of 2019.
