Leeds prepare five-year deal for Monk

|

Leeds will hand manager Garry Monk a new mega five-year deal to stay at Elland Road, according to a report.

The Sun claim that co-owner Andrea Radrizzani will hold talks with the 38-year-old about committing his long-term future to the Whites.

It is understood that those discussions will take place once Radrizzani completes the purchase of Massimo Cellino’s 50 per cent stake in Leeds, which will make him the sole owner of the Yorkshire giants.

The report details that Monk is seen as the manager that can guide the club back to the Premier League following their 13-year exile.

It is believed that Radrizzani rates Monk highly and is willing to back him to achieve the ultimate goal of top flight football.

Monk was handed a 12-month contract at the start of the season when he joined and has seemingly done enough to prolong his stay.

The former Swansea boss has restored belief at Leeds as his side challenged hard for promotion this season.

The Whites were in the play-off race for the majority of the campaign and looked certain for a top-six finish at the beginning of April, but just ran out of steam in the closing weeks.

They will view the season as a positive on reflection and there were a number of special individual performers, including the likes of Chris Wood and Pontus Jansson.

Leeds striker Wood ended the year with 30 goals across all competitions to enhance his reputation as one of the Championship’s top, while Monk built a resilient defence with centre-back Jansson at the core of their success.
