Wolves have made a bid for Blackburn goalkeeper Jason Steele, according to a report.

The Sun claim that Wolves have submitted a £2million offer to sign the 26-year-old shot stopper.

It is understood that Blackburn’s owners the Venkys are willing to sell him in the summer to get his £6,000-a-week wage off their budget, with the club preparing for life in League One.

The report details that manager Paul Lambert has made the first move for the goalkeeper as he looks for someone to provide competition for Carl Ikeme.

Steele suffered a relegation from the Championship this season with Blackburn as Tony Mowbray’s side were relegated on the final day of the season, despite winning 3-1 away at Brentford.

However, the former England Under-21 goalkeeper was one of their ever-presents this campaign and has a wealth of experience in the Championship.

He has made 244 appearances in England’s second division during spells with Blackburn and Middlesbrough.

Steele managed to keep seven clean sheets in 44 matches across all competitions this season and looks set to be playing his football away from Ewood Park in the future.

In contrast, Wolves’ current number one Ikeme has 10 clean sheets in 33 appearances and the 30-year-old is a popular figure at Molineux.
