Rangers captain Lee Wallace has revealed that his season is now over and he hopes to return to training during the summer.

The 29-year-old has missed the last six matches across all competitions due to a stomach injury which required surgery.

He has now explained that he is recovering from his operation, but is set to miss the remaining three games of the season.

“The stomach and the tear itself, the repair went fine,” Wallace said, as quoted by the club’s official website. “I saw the surgeon two weeks later and he was happy with how it looked and was given the go-ahead to step it up with Steve [Walker] and the physios at that point.

“There’s time now and we are going to use these remaining weeks to build that flexibility and get myself back to a level where I can join in training again. I think at this moment in time, it will probably be the summer when we return for pre-season.”

Wallace has been a regular feature in the Gers side this season and made 35 appearances across all competitions.

The left-back has proved the attacking side of his game by supplying eight assists and gives Rangers great width.

The Scotland international will hope to return stronger next season and regain his spot in the starting line-up, but 18-year-old Myles Beerman has impressed during his absence.

Rangers boss Pedro Caixinha is expected to have a busy summer transfer window ahead as he looks to help the Ibrox outfit compete with champions Celtic.

They have fallen a long way short of the pace during their first season back in the top flight and will hope to improve next year.

Wallace has made 252 appearances for the Gers so far and is one of those players that is expected to still be in the first team set-up in the future.
