Sheffield United rival Leeds for winger Thomas

|

Leeds face tough competition from Sheffield United for Hartlepool United winger Nathan Thomas, according to a report.

The Northern Echo claim that Hartlepool are set to lose £350,000 due to a solidarity payment following their relegation from League Two, but could recapture most of that money by selling Thomas.

It is understood that Leeds and Sheffield United could offer the 22-year-old Championship football next season, with the latter recently promoted from League One.

The report details that Leeds have been keeping tabs on the wide man this season following his impressive goalscoring form at the beginning of the campaign.

However, it is believed that the Blades could be prepared to make a six-figure offer of £300,000 to secure his services.

Thomas suffered a cruel relegation with Hartlepool on the final day of the season to non-league football, but is expected to remain in the Football League.

The left winger made 34 appearances this campaign across all competitions, scoring nine goals in return.

His goal return is impressive for a player that missed a large part of the season with a knee injury and is much better than what Leeds’ wingers produced this season.

Garry Monk had difficult in the wide areas this campaign and there was not enough goal contribution to support central striker Chris Wood.

The Whites will lose loanees Hadi Sacko, Alfonso Pedraza and Mo Barrow, meaning there is a serious shortage of wide options at Elland Road.

Thomas is yet to play about League Two during his time in English football and it would be a big test to see if he can make the step up.
