Tottenham enjoyed a very successful season which saw them solidify their highest ever Premier League finish.

However Mauricio Pochettino and his men ultimately failed in their goal of earning silverware and there were still some disappointing performances over the course of the season.

Here, This is Futbol analyses the three worst Spurs displays of the 2016/17 campaign.

Tottenham 0-1 Bayer Leverkusen

Spurs’ Wembley woes were very much one of the talking points of the season, and many suggest it could seriously impact their abilities of winning trophies in the immediate future. The 1-0 home loss to Leverkusen left Tottenham’s chances of reaching the Champions League knock-out stages in absolute tatters as they fell to a second half Kevin Kampl goal. Pochettino’s men were playing at Wembley while work progressed on their new home on the side of White Hart Lane, which is now being demolished for good. All of Spurs’ home games will take place at the English national stadium next season and the Leverkusen result set a worrying tone for all fans.

Gent 1-0 Tottenham

Another 1-0 loss and another European blow. This time it came in the Europa League to the hands of Belgian outfit Gent, who weren’t expected to come anywhere near matching up to Spurs on the night. However the performance of the North London boys was absolutely dreadful and it meany they were left with a big task back at Wembley for the second leg – where of course they failed to win again and crashed out of Europe all together. Jeremy Perbet scored the only goal in the win for Gent, but competing on one less front definitely paved way to improved domestic performances.

West Ham 1-0 Tottenham

Spurs were breathing down the neck of Chelsea as they gunned for a maiden Premier League title and a result at the London Stadium would have seen them pile further pressure on Antonio Conte’s men. They could have gone within one point of the leaders, but a second-half Manuel Lanzini goal dealt Tottenham with perhaps their biggest blow of the season. They could only watch on as Chelsea won back-to-back games against Middlesbrough and West Brom to seal the title before they even had a chance to respond. It was a very anti-climactic way to end what was a very encouraging year.
