Pedro Caixinha must do everything in his power to beat Celtic to the signing of Harry Wilson.

ESPN FC claim Hoops manager Brendan Rodgers is interested in signing the 20-year-old fstriker rom Liverpool, but Rangers should pull out all the stops to beat their bitter rivals to his signature.

The young Welshman has been in top form for the Reds Under-23s this season, and he has bagged 12 goals in 17 Premier League 2 appearances.

Wilson is one of Merseyside’s hottest young talents and it is said Wolves are also interested in him, but here are three reasons why Rangers must blow Celtic out of the water and bring him to Ibrox.

Goals

The 20-year-old has been prolific for Liverpool Under-23s this term and the Gers have grown reliant on the goals of veteran striker Kenny Miller. In order the reduce the load on Miller, Caixinha must bring in attacking reinforcements. Wilson could provide ample support for Miller given his ability to play on the wing, or as a second striker, but he could also lead the line in his place. He has shown this season he is a natural goal scorer with his impressive tally for the Under-23s, and Rangers need a few more players like Wilson if they are to challenge Celtic next term.

Squad depth

The Gers will make a return to Europe next season for the first time in five years and they will need more depth in their squad. Several senior players missed the latter half of this season with injury and Caixinha was left clutching at straws for players to fill his defence. Although Wilson is not a defender, the point still stands, because with even more games next season, there is even more chances for senior stars to get injured. When they do having young players like Wilson on the books ready to step in and make an impact. The 20-year-old can play on the wing or as a striker too, so he gives Caixinha room to manoeuvre his formation, because of his flexibility.

Chance to prove himself

Scoring goals for youth teams is all well and good, but Wilson needs to prove himself in the men’s game. He will be given a real chance to shine at Rangers if he goes there, while if he were to move to Celtic, his chances may be more limited. He would be behind the likes of Leigh Griffiths and Moussa Dembele at Parkhead, whereas at Ibrox his only real competition for the strikers spot would be Miller. If Wilson is serious about making a career at Anfield he has to seek further opportunities to prove himself, and by playing regular football at a club like Rangers he can do just that.
