‘Perfect’ – Rogic delivers verdict on cup final winner

Celtic midfielder Tom Rogic has claimed his late winner in the Scottish Cup final was the “perfect” way to complete the treble.

The Hoops beat Aberdeen 2-1 on Saturday in the cup final at Hampden Park to secure a historic treble.

The Dons took the lead early on through Johnny Hayes, but Stuart Armstrong netted an equaliser just two minutes later.

Rogic then broke Aberdeen hearts as he fired home an injury-time winner to seal the win for Brendan Rodgers’ side.

Speaking to the Scottish Sun after the match, the 24-year-old said: “We would rather have won the game 3-0 or something instead of waiting until the last minute.

“But when you get the goal that late, it makes it even sweeter. It’s a perfect end to what has been a special season for all of us.

“It feels pretty good to score the winner — in fact it’s an amazing feeling. It hasn’t really sunk in yet, to be honest.

“To go unbeaten domestically, to get the treble, is just amazing. It’s something that we will look back on forever.”

The victory over Aberdeen handed the Bhoys their 37th Scottish Cup, having already secured their 48th league title earlier this season, and their 16th Scottish League cup back in November.

It also confirmed an entire domestic season unbeaten for the club, who have not lost a domestic league or cup game since the end of the 2016/16 season.

Rogic has been a mainstay of Rodgers’ midfield this term and has made 37 appearances in all competitions, scoring 12 goals and supplying six assists.

The Australian joined the Glasgow giants in January 2013 from Central Coast Mariners, and has since gone on to play 91 league and cup games for the club.

Rogic has also been capped by Australia on 18 occasions, scoring four goals.
