Adam Matthews has congratulated Celtic after they completed the treble by beating Aberdeen 2-1 in the Scottish Cup final on Saturday.

Goals from Stuart Armstrong and Tom Rogic proved too much for the Dons, as Brendan Rodgers picked up his third trophy of the season after confirming League Cup and Scottish Premiership triumphs earlier in the season.

Posting on his personal Twitter account after the final whistle, former Celtic right-back Matthews applauded his old side for their display, describing the treble as a “massive achievement”.

Jonny Hayes gave Aberdeen the lead within the first ten minutes of the match at Hampden Park, only for Armstrong to equalise just two minutes later.

With the game levelled at 1-1, Australia international Rogic popped up injury time after coming off the bench to blast home the winner in the 92nd minute and send Hoops fans into delirium.

Celtic have dominated Scottish football this year, blowing away their rivals to finish 30 points clear at the top of the league and break the record points tally with 106, three more than their effort in 2001-02.

Matthews left Celtic in 2015 to join Sunderland after four years with the club, following his move north of the border from Welsh side Cardiff City.

The 25-year-old made a total of 150 league and cup outings for the 48-time Scottish champions, but his career has since declined after making just 14 appearances for Bristol City while on loan from Sunderland.
