Brendan Rodgers has revealed that Kieran Tierney will need to go under the knife after suffering an injury to his mouth in Celtic’s Scottish Cup final win against Aberdeen.

Celtic earned a last-gasp 2-1 win against Derek McInnes’ Dons as playmaker Tom Rogic struck late on to send Hoops fans into raptures at Hampden Park.

However, midway through the first half, 19-year-old star Tierney was on the receiving end of a robust challenge from Aberdeen attacker Jayden Stockley.

Replays showed Stockley’s arm catch Tierney in the face, with no action taken on the 23-year-old as the incident was ruled as accidental by referee Bobby Madley.

Speaking after the Bhoys’ 37th Scottish Cup triumph, treble-winning boss Rodgers claimed Tierney will have to undergo an operation as Stockley had knocked some of Tierney’s teeth through the top of his mouth.

“His mouth is a bit swollen. He may need an operation on his mouth,” Rodgers said, as quoted by Sky Sports. “He is still here and got his medal.

“I think the teeth had come through the palate in the top of his mouth. I can’t imagine how sore that is so he’ll need some sort of protective surgery.”

The Celtic academy product was replaced in the 26th minute by playmaker Rogic, who went on to score the all-important goal of the game with a superb solo effort late on.

Celtic’s sixth win of the season against Aberdeen from the two sides’ meetings saw the Hoops confirm a marvellous treble in Rodgers’ first season, after already winning the Scottish Premiership and League Cup.

If he does have an operation, Tierney will have been operated on twice this season after surgeons corrected his broken ankle during the Christmas period.

Making 40 appearances this season in all competitions, Tierney has been one of Celtic’s most consistent performers and shown he is both equally adept at defending as well as going forward with two goals and 12 assists.
